Let’s delve into the stories

The President of Tour Operators Union Ghana  TOUGHA, Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah, received the Ghana Women of Excellence Award in Tourism Promotion.

The award recognized her significant contributions to Ghana's social and economic development.

Mrs. Osei-Asamoah emphasized the importance of acknowledging women's contributions across various sectors. As TOUGHA President and CEO of Riali Consult, she has played a pivotal role in steering Ghana's tourism sector to unprecedented success.

The citation accompanying the award praised her efforts in promoting domestic tourism and shedding light on Ghana's hidden treasures.

Mrs. Osei-Asamoah highlighted the powerful role of tourism as a catalyst for economic growth and cultural exchange.

Away from that

Ghana's domestic air travel experienced a 9.9% decrease in passengers in 2023, totaling 775,662 compared to 852,101 in 2022.

The decline is attributed to the alleged artificial restriction of supply by the duopoly of operators, AWA and Passion Air, leading to increased prices.

International travel increased by 15.8%, from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.1 million in 2023.

Despite the decline, Ghana remains unique globally, with over 500,000 annual domestic passengers.

The regulator aims to ensure adequate funding for airlines to maintain safety standards, allowing for potential new entrants or increased capacity in the market.

In more news

The $57.44 million project to expand Ghana's Kotoka International Airport has been indefinitely suspended due to delayed funds from Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

The contractor, Messrs. Amandi Holding Limited, halted work after completing 31% of the project.

Originally set for completion by August 2022, the GACL Managing Director cited delayed payments, and the new completion date depends on fund availability.

The financial setback is attributed to the COVID-19 impact on GACL's internally generated funds (IGF).

Some argue that the project's failure to address budget issues before starting caused the delays.

In International News

New rules in Spain mandate that UK tourists visiting Ibiza and other Spanish regions must provide proof of accommodation on entry.

They will also face fines up to £8,000 if they cannot comply.

Applicable to all British citizens and non-EU passport holders for stays under 90 days, the regulation also requires proof of a return or onward ticket.

Acceptable accommodation evidence includes hotel, Airbnb, or hostel bookings, a holiday home or second home visit, or a "carta de invitación" (invitation letter) if visiting friends or family.

Hosts must be Spanish nationals, EU citizens in Spain, or non-EU citizens with legal residence.

Issuing an invitation involves a fee and a complex process, taking up to 60 days.

Failure to produce the required paperwork may result in significant fines for both visitors and hosts.
